My go to Travel Apps

Travel is complex. People who say they are so carefree and wild and don’t plan a thing… they are lying. Traveling does take some time, effort and research. Here are my favorite apps that help me secure the cheapest flights, not miss one item when packing or find the best small mom and pop restaurant in the area.

FLIGHTS

  • Trip.com (takes the fees and taxes out of it, you ONLY pay for the actual flight, usually 20% cheaper than most)

  • Skip-lagged (can find “hidden” flights for really cheap. For example, a $1200 flight to Europe has a layover in NYC.. you can hop off at NYC and only pay say $100 for that leg of the flight! but don’t forget you can’t have baggage with this method)

  • SkyScanner (self explanatory, a fan favorite… find a lot of deals at once)

  • Kiwi.com (allows you to view a lot of options at once marketing the best airlines!)

  • Southwest (simply because you can pick your seat always and because you get two free checked bags and one carryon and person item… so nice for college kids who go home for breaks, travel nurses etc.)

ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Vrbo (book long term stays with them, and try to find family owned rentals and ask if you can have a discount.. if they don’t have anyone else lined up to stay they will usually give it to you!)

  • Airbnb (again, aim for family owned stays and not corporate… Airbnb fees are more expensive than Vrbo so do with that what you will)

  • Booking.com (truly finds best prices and allows you to pay at the counter meaning say you book for 4 months out and you don’t feel throwing 1000$ down now. You can save up after securing the booking!)

OTHER

  • My Packing Checklist (I use a travel planner on my Ipad for this but if you want a iphone quick formate this app is super simple and gives you ideas about the small things you may have missed!)

  • MyTSA (seriously it’s like 60$ a year and you get to skip the line and not take off your shoes….. um win 100%)

  • AllTrails (gives you every detail you need to know on the best times, where to park, safety measures to take, difficulty levels etc.)

  • Culture Trip (offers non promotional recs into the best restaurants nearby, tourist destinations that are actually worth it etc.)

  • My Currency Rates and Conversions (self explanatory)

  • Speak and Translate (super embarrassing sometimes but it’s better to make the effort and have some kind of idea about the local language you are immersing yourself in!)

Okay! Super short and sweet but I use these for most trips I book and plan and love the duality and functionality of the apps. Hope this helps someone book a dream trip sometime soon:)
