The Guide to Cheap Flights

Okay, we all want the answers. I mean seriously how does anyone possibly travel so much and just buy flights after flights right? Well there are some tips I use to secure the best possible flights for the shortest journey and cheapest price. You should not be spending over 300 dollars for a domestic flight and over 700 for most international. Here are my top 5 tactics I use to ensure I am getting the best deal.

MY TOP TIPS:

  1. Credit Card Travel Rewards: If you are still using a debit card in 2021...why? Use your credit card for literally everything and anything you can. You can even have more than one card if you get approved. I use Chase Freedom Card but other good rewards/ travel cards include Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Ultimate Rewards®, The Platinum Card® from American ExpressNew Platinum, Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, Citi Premier® Card, Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, Chase Sapphire Reserve®. Okay those are just a few but enough for you to get the idea! I get around 200$ in rewards couple months or month and a half so it adds up to basically a free flight every two months domestically and international every 4 to 5 months.

  2. Southwest Southwest Southwest: Southwest is hands down my favorite domestic airline. They currently fly to Hawaii, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico which some domestic do not. Also they offer decent prices but most importantly, two FREE checked bags with EVERY flight. This is key for me when I am moving, traveling home for a few weeks or a long trip to Hawaii! Join on the Southwest flight for free to accumulate points which also add up quite fast to get free flights.

  3. Google Flights: This is how I find international flights always. Okay here is how to find the best flights on Google. Go to Google Flights and put in the MONTH you plan to travel and mark destination you want to go or if you do not have a set place put in destination as "anywhere" you will find literal flights to Europe for 400 dollars if you are flexible with your times. From there you will see "green, yellow and red" days which equate to the most and least expensive flights of the month. The green flights are actually dirt cheap and I recommend grabbing those and planning your trip around that awesome deal.

  4. Websites: Snaptravel, Skiplagged, Kiwi, CheapOAir, JustFly, SkyScanner. I like skip lagged the most because you can basically book flights that will not populate on any other site because you for example take a flight form Orlando to California but your destination is Arizona. Because that flight has a layover in AZ you just hop off at the layover and do not get back on. You do have to only carry a carryon though as you will not be able to retrieve a bag. These are the top sites for cheap flights!

  5. Be savvy. Travel to places during their "off" seasons for cheap flights, fly that areas main airline. For example I just flew British airlines to London because it is cheaper than the others since it's the home airline. Do not check bags, like ever. I will do a post on my favorite luggage to not have to check a bag but seriously unless you have to do not, you can travel Europe for a month with a carryon an book bag.

Okay! These are my top 5 tips. Hope this helps anyone out there looking for the best deals. In my brain any money saved via flight hacks is more money to be spend on yummy food, a new experience or another flight:)
